Manpower
We maintain a resident Mission of 46 UK-based and 45 locally-engaged staff at Peking and three UK-based and three locally-engaged staff outhoused at the China Trade Unit (CTU) at Hong Kong. There is also a Consulate-General at Shanghai with four UK-based and 10 locally-engaged staff. Most resources are directed towards political (including economic and Hong Kong related matters) and commercial affairs. The commercial team consists of a Counsellor, five First Secretaries (one dealing with the Energy Section; two at the CTU), two Second Secretaries (one at the CTU) and two Third Secretaries. They are supported by three senior locally-engaged staff. Activity at Shanghai is also primarily commercial. On the political side there is a
