outlines not only what is to be the composition of the Legislative Council in the first term, but in the second and the third and the
fourth?
FOREIGN SECRETARY :
No, you find that the Basic Law goes on to provide fur changes in the structure of the Legislative Council in later tarms, beyond 1997, and I think visualises the ultimate conclusion
of universal suffrage selection of all of them.
But the timing of that is one of the matters still under
discussion in the Basic Law Drafting Committee.
I would just like to emphasise, that last bit is still oue
of the areas that is still under most active discussion
timing of the movement beyond 1997
-
the
including the part that may
or may not be played in that by the possible Referendum and by the possible views of the Chief Executive.
All that is very much
under discussion in the Basic Law Drafting Committee.
