Thank you very much for your recent letter with which you enclosed an article from "Dateline Hong Kong" on the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee Inquiry into Hong Kong. I certainly agree that a substantial number of Peers have considerable knowledge of Hong Kong and the fact that at least fifteen peers were able to visit the Colony last year demons- trating the interest shown by members of the House of Lords.
However the proposed visit to Hong Kong to which the article refers is being made on behalf of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee. That is why, for this particular visit, Peers have not been invited to take part.
