REPRESENTATIONS ON RESETTLEMENT
Made representations to 21 resettlement countries, urging them to increase their offtake of Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong. addition to our new undertaking to resettle 1,000 Vietnamese refugees in Britain over the next two to three years, other resettlement countries have indicated that they will provide about 4,200 resettlement places in 1989 compared to about 2,500 in 1988
and 2,200 in 1987.

Canada has decided to resettle 1500-1800 Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong in 1989, compared to 1009 in 1988. The United States
