WHAT WORK STILL TO BE DONE?
Most major issues have already been raised. No plans to introduce significant new issues in forseeable future. But great
deal of work still to be done in many areas:
discussions on defence and public order likely to continue for several years; agreement reached on expansion of Police Force to resume task of controlling illegal immigration on the border. Discussions continue on question of future of defence lands currently used by the British garrison.
examination of multilateral and bilateral treaties applied to Hong Kong and consideration of how they can continue to apply beyond 1997; have completed discussions of most international

fugitives from Hong Kong to foreign jurisdictions. Discussions are continuing on basis of agreement of principle.

Discussions (relating to admiralty jurisdiction) enacted.
