Lord Gridley has written to The Lord Privy Seal in the absence of Lord Glenarthur asking why a member of the House of Lords has not been included in the visit to Hong Kong described in the enclosed press article. We think the answer is probably because the trip is being made on behalf of the House of Commons Select Committee on Foreign Affairs. Also was it not the case that there was a trip to Hong Kong in the last year or so by a group of Peers?. Could you please arrange for advice on this matter together with a draft reply Lord Belstead can consider sending to Lord Gridley.

Considering that the trip might be underway by the end of March I should be grateful for as quick a response as possible.

Yours sincerely

Ba All
