HONG KONG'S TRADING POSITION AFTER 1997
There is every reason for Hong Kong to continue to prosper through trade after 1997 as it has done until now.
Joint Declaration provides that Hong Kong will maintain its status as a free port and will continue its free trade policy after 1997. Hong Kong SAR will be able on its own to maintain and develop economic and trade relations with all states and regions.
Since 1986 Hong Kong has become a contracting party of the GATT
in its own right.
