All expenditure incurred on behalf of the Committee, including travel costs where travel arrangements (buses etc) are made by Post, is recoverable from the House of Commons. Your Accountant should enter the amount spent on a separate schedule headed "House of Commons" with, in the authority column, "Visit of Select Committee on Foreign Affairs to Hong Kong 17-22 April".

Incidentally, while on the subject of transport, I have just been informed by the Committee Assistant, that, while the Committee are generally content to use a minibus for reasonably short journeys around town, they will probably not be content with this form of transport for longer journeys and you should therefore be prepared to lay on more comfortable alternative transport where necessary.

I would be grateful if you would pass whatever information you consider necessary to Mr John Chan, Deputy Chief Secretary, Government Secretariat, and confirm that he is still handling programme arrangements for the visit. his visit here last week, the Governor's Private Secretary told me that he thought it possible that programme arrangements might shortly be taken over by Mrs Stephanie Bourne of the Administrative Services and Information Branch of the Secretariat. I would be grateful if you could clarify the situation.
