Foreign Affairs Committee: Possible enquiry into Hong Kong

As we have discussed, Mr Howell considers it

99% certain that the FAC will decide on 11 January to undertake an enquiry into Hong Kong. He has asked if he could be briefed privately on 10 January by

a senior FCO official so that he can steer the Committee's discussion in a way that will avoid terms of reference that could be damaging to UK interests. The Secretary of State would be grateful if this could be done. As we discussed, since Mr McLaren will be away, the natural candidate would be Mr Gillmore,

with you in support. We have discussed how we will need to go about the practical arrangements. away until 10 January.
