Explanatory Memorandum
The main objects of this Bill are—
(a) to exempt from jury service all members of the Urban and Regional Councils, probation officers and certain social workers; and
(b) to repeal the requirement that lists of names added to settled jury
lists be published in the Gazette.

Clause 2 extends the definition of "Commissioner" so that it means, in addition to the Commissioner of Registration, the Deputy Commissioner of Registration and an assistant commissioner of registration.
3. Clause 3 amends section 5 of the principal Ordinance by exempt- ing from jury service-
(a) all members of the Urban Council and Regional Council (ordinary
members of the Urban Council having been previously exempt);
(b) the principal probation officer and probation officers;
(c) social workers employed full-time in a reformatory school, place
of detention or approved institution.
4. Clauses 4, 5 and 6 amend sections 7, 9 and 10 of the principal Ordinance, which deal with the provisional and settled lists of jurors. The amendments make the Registrar of the Supreme Court responsible for the
