MUTUAL JUDICIAL ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT WITH THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA
Michael Carpenter of Lord Chancellor's Department has very kindly copied to me his letter of 12 April to you (as he did his letter of 10 December 1987 to Fletcher Cook) concerning a
concerning a possible agreement with China covering certain matters affecting civil and commercial legal procedures.
I should be grateful if you would note the interest of Scottish Courts Administration in the proposals, as we are concerned with the application of any possible Convention to Scottish procedures, and also keep us informed of developments in this matter directly. The only correspondence which I have seen is that sent to me by Michael Carpenter, which includes a copy of the UK/Canada and France/China Conventions concerning judicial assistance in civil and commercial matters. Please can you provide me with copies of other letters in the correspondence.
For the moment, I would say that I agree with the observations that Michael has made in his letter to you of 12 April and would lend support to the proposal to seek a bilateral Convention covering the proposed matters.
