CRIMINAL JUSTICE BILL EXTRADITION

Last session's Bill included a gallant but misguided attempt to

repeal the Extradition Acts. There is no such attempt in the

present Bill.

The Acts will survive for many years to come.

If the Extradition Acts had been repealed, they would have had to

take with them a string of enactments adding new items to the

list of extradition crimes. In Part II of Schedule 13 to last

session's Bill, as brought from the Commons, everything following

the Fugitive Offenders Act 1967 was aimed at this. The list was

not correct, because it was prepared

was prepared in ignorance of the fact

that the Hijacking Act 1971 and the Protection of Aircraft Act

1973 had been consolidated into the Aviation Security Act 1982.
