Note :

(1) Figures refer to passengers travelling on Hong

Kong travel documents other than Re-entry Permit and Document of Identity.

Figures

(2) The data collection system, namely the TRINDEX system, was computerized in October 1976. for earlier years were based on manual count of arrival/departure cards and Immigration Department could only confirm the accuracy of the figures for 1974-1976 because of the difficulty in tracing records back into the earlier period. Figures prior to 1974 were thus subject to counting error, the magnitude of which was not known.

(3) Figures up to 1977 covered only the airport and

ocean-going vessels control points. Arrivals and departures of passengers travelling on HKBP or CI through the Macau Ferry Wharf and Lo Wu Border were not included. After 1978, the coverage was extended to all control points. However, after the introduction of TRAICES in May 1987, the figures again referred only to movements at the airport and ocean-going vessels control points.

(4)

To account for passengers using different travel documents in their itineraries, balancing stamp adjustments were introduced in 1981 to include both in- and out-movements of these passengers for estimating the net outflow. However, with the introduction of TRAICES in May 1987, the balancing stamp adjustments were dropped.
