The majority of people who have mentioned social welfare-related problems and crime-related problems (69% and 60% respectively) do not consider these problems facing themselves personally. As regards Government's performance and efforts in solving the problems, 17% of people who have mentioned "Hong Kong Future" as a problem consider that the Government "has handled the problem well" (cf. 23% in June 1987, 47% in December 1986 and 33% in June 1986), and 36%
consider that the Government "has exerted
a lot of efforts'
(cf. 47% in June 1987, 71% in December 1986 and 52% in June
1986). These reflect that
that the Government's
Government's performance and efforts in handling the problem of "Hong Kong Future" are less favourably received by the people than in 1986.

The percentage of people saying that the Government's overall performance is good stands at 46% which is similar to that in June 1987 (47%), and is the third highest figure ever recorded in this series of surveys. This illustrates that people continue to have a good impression of the Government's performance în general.

37% of the people say that the communication between the Government and the public is good. This is slightly lower than the corresponding figure in June 1987 (40%), but the difference is statistically insignificant.
(v) Present situation and future expectation

The percentage of people expressing satisfaction about the present situation (90%) is broadly similar to the figure recorded in June 1987 (87%).
