In Hongkong, traditional medicines are big business. Tung Fong Hung Medicine Company Ltd was recently listed on The Stock Exchange of Hongkong Ltd and, since its
initial issue in April, has seen its share price rise from the Offer Price of 68 cents per share to $HK1.15 per share.
Tung Fong Hung boasts a number of qualified practitio- ners on its staff, though their qualifications are not, at present, recognized by the Hongkong Government.
However, Dr Lee and many other people concerned with the future of traditional Chinese medicine in Hongkong believe that, unless traditional medicine is accorded some kind of official recognition by the Hongkong Government, the full potential of Hongkong as a research and treatment centre is unlikely to be realized, to the detriment of the community as a whole.
