MIDWIVES REGISTRATION (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE 1988
(No. 6 of 1988)
Enclosure No. 2-
This Ordinance amends the Midwives Registration Ordinance to remove the Director of Medical and Health Services as the ex officio chairman of the Midwives Board and to make provision for the election of a chairman by the members of the Board from amongst themselves. The objective is to give greater independence to this statutory body.
2. The Ordinance also introduces changes to the composition of the Midwives Board, the most significant being the inclusion of a lay member appointed by the Governor.
3. Before the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, the Acting Attorney General advised that he could properly do so.
