Problem

A letter to the Prime Minister from Mr Chris Bale of Oxfam Hong

Kong calling for an increase in the UK's quota of refugees resettled from Hong Kong to a rate of 60 per month.

Recommendation

I recommend that the Prime Minister is advised to reply along

the lines of the attached draft. I submit a short covering Private

Secretary's letter.

Background

The draft follows closely the line in the letter to Miss Lydia Dunn, which the Prime Minister has now approved, including the

detail about the rate of resettlement envisaged.
