Dear Pabor

RESETTLEMENT OF VIETNAMESE LAND REFUGEES IN THAILAND.

one

Thank you for your letter of 14 July enclosing a copy of the from Delia Walker about an ICRC request to consider resettlement of a number of Vietnamese land refugees in Thailand. We had not previously seen the ICRC letter.

As you suspect, there is not enough information in the list for us to consider whether any of the individuals might be admitted to the UK. Last year we established a quota of 60 for the admission of Vietnamese refugees from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines with selection based on extended family reunion criteria: we normally admit the spouse and minor children of a refugee who is already in this country and in these cases this was extended to include grandparents, parents,

If it children, grandchildren, and siblings and their families. is the case that anyone on the ICRC list was the spouse or minor child of

refugee a

already here we would admit them automatically; if there are some with lesser links to the UK we would be prepared to consider them. But in any case we would clearly need more information.

I am copying this to SEAD and HKD.
