FOLLOW-UP TO PAST ENQUIRIES

We spoke about this earlier today. We have been asked by the Home Affairs Committee to submit follow-up memoranda in respect of a number of reports. One of these is HC.72, Refugees and

Asylum.

This request follows an earlier one in February last year when

we were asked to provide further information on a number of specific issues.

I enclose a copy of the paper which was submitted to the Home Affairs Committee in March in response to that request. As you will see the first three responses deal with issues which, I think, are of concern to you and I would be grateful if you could let me have any more up-to-date information to include in the response to the present request.

Looking at the Government's original response to the Report, I would be grateful to know whether any amendment is necessary to the responses to recommendation 2, 3, 5 and 6.

We have undertaken to let the Home Affairs Committee have our

memorandum by the end of February. Given the need to clear our response with Ministers I would therefore be grateful to receive contributions from you by 15 February if at all possible.
