some 108,804, or 18.4 percent, left from Hongkong. In the light of these

figures, it may reasonably be concluded that Hong Kong has benefitted

fairly from the international solidarity manifested at the 1979 Geneva

Meeting during subsequent years. UNHCR will continue in its

endeavours to ensure that this practice is maintained and hopes that the

Government of Hong Kong will equally continue to fulfil its obligations as

a first asylum country of providing at least temporary refuge to the

persons concerned.
