Pursuant to the Malaysian-Vietnamese agreement

reached during the visit of Honourable Deputy Prime

Minister of Malaysia to Hanoi from August 26th to August

29th, 1988 on the repatriation of the Vietnamese boat

people in Malaysia who wish to return to Vietnam, a

team of Vietnamese officials paid a working visit to

Malaysia from October 29th to November 3rd, 1988 at

the invitation of the Malaysian side, in order to work

out specific measures and modalities for the implementa-

tion of the agreement.

During their visit to Malaysia, the Vietnamese

officials! made а courtesy call on His Excellency Dato

Haji Abu Hassan Bin Haji Omar, Minister of Foreign Affairs

and H.E. Dato' Abdul Majid Mohamed, Acting Secretary

General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The dis-

cussion took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

The Vietnamese side informed the Malaysian side of the

measures taken by Vietnam to reinforce the prevention

of illegal departures by means of educational information,

legislation, and expending the implementation of

Orderly Departure Programme (ODP) as the sole channel

for Vietnamese migrants.
