The Swedish section of Amnesty International have asked their members to write to the Governor of Hong Kong expressing concern at "the allegations of ill-treatment of Vietnamese asylum seekers at Hei Ling Chau on 19 July 1988" and urging him to institute an independent enquiry. Copies of several such letters from Amnesty members have been sent to us.

There has so far been no local press interest in these allegations but in case this happens we should be most grateful to know the line you are taking on this matter.
