You have applied for asylum in the United Kingdom on the grounds that you have a well-founded fear of persecution in Sri Lanka for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion. The Secretary of State has considered your application.

Sri Lanka has in recent years experienced considerable disorder which the authorities have had to take measures to control. As a result of this disorder individuals of all ethnic groups have suffered. However the Secretary of State, having considered all the available evidence, does not consider that Tamils in Sri Lanka are a persecuted group who have a claim to refugee status under the 1951 UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees simply by virtue of their ethnic or national origins.

Nevertheless the Secretary of State does consider individual applications for asylum to see whether they fall within the terms of the 1951 UN Convention. depends on the circumstances in the individual case.
