Measures to reassure first asylum countries on resettlement could include:
-according priority to the processing of longstayer refugee cases.
-UNHCR to urge other countries to actively process longstayer refugee cases for resettlement.
Measures to promote orderly migration could include:
-UNHCR to maintain dialogue with Viet Nam stressing the positive value of enhanced cooperation in the area of orderly departure programs.
-the ICG members and other interested Governments to pursue dialogue with Viet Nam on the strengthening of orderly migration.
-the US to pursue with Viet Nam improvements in the operation of its program including greater numbers and improved access to cases of priority interest both under the refugee program and the IV program.
-Australia to seek further improvements to procedures under which its Vietnamese family migration program operates and to emphasise the positive role of enhanced migration in its relationship with Viet Nam.
-Canada to pursue improvement of family migration in the context of the positive role of migration in the bilateral relationship.
-other countries to pursue higher levels of. ODP departures vigorously with Viet Nam.
