Dear Peter
RESETTLEMENT OF VIETNAMESE LAND REFUGEES IN THAILAND
1.
I enclose a letter dated 23 June from Delia Walker in Geneva about an ICRC request to consider the resettlement of Vietnamese land refugees in Thailand. I am not sure whether our post in Bangkok have forwarded their copy of the ICRC letter to you under separate cover.
2. I suspect that the ICRC have not provided sufficient information for you to consider whether any of these cases merit resettlement in the UK. None of them appear to have close ties or family links with this country.
3. I should be grateful for your advice on how UKMis Geneva might reply to the ICRC. Our Hong Kong Department are consulting Hong Kong about the five persons with family links in Hong Kong. In view of the time constraints, I should be grateful if you could give us an initial steer by 3 August.
Regards, Reber
