Dear

Madame Demierre,

in

ons

I wrote to you on 22 August, concerning the issue of resettlement of Vietnamese land refugees in Thailand,

reply to your letter of 6 June to my Ambassador. In the second paragraph of my letter I mentioned that we were still awaiting information from the Hong Kong authorities about the first set of priority cases. (five persons with family links in Hong Kong).

We have now received a reply from the Hong Kong authorities who have advised that these five persons are not eligible for resettlement in Hong Kong. This is because none of them fulfils the existing criteria for entry into Hong Kong, nor are the sponsors residentially qualified to act as such.

I am sorry, therefore, that we are not able to help with the resettlement of this set.

Yours sincerely,

Delia Waller.
