Thank you for your various responses to the office circular on Australia.
2.
Mr
The circular brought to light a notable gap in our schedule of bilateral talks with the Australians, namely Asia. This is an area where we could hope to benefit from an Australian perspective, and an increasing focus for their commercial and economic efforts. McLaren supports this new initiative which will be included in our report to No 10. He proposes to lead a team of officials to Canberra sometime in 1989. Funds will be allocated from Mr McLaren's travel budget and he expects to be accompanied by 2 or 3 officials depending on the agenda.
