Our current resettlement programme

which will take us up to

May of next year is about 20 a month. Even this puts a

considerable strain on the local authorities involved.

A further programme is under active consideration.

We have already taken in more refugees from Vietnam than from any other place in the world.

Resettling people in strange countries creates real

difficulties to which there are no ea.S y answers. If we are to get it right, the facilities for training, housing etc should not be

overstretched.

Orderly Departure Programme

Rate of departures from Vietnam is controlled by Vietnamese

authorities.

Aware that many have been waiting to come here for some years. Much easier for us if numbers are steady, so that our reception

facilities can cope.

No question of arrivals under ODP being at expense of

resettlement from Hong Kong.
