I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the very thought provoking and, may I say, entertaining speech you delivered to the Bexleyheath Conservative Association Supper Club last night.
Your chosen topic of drug trafficking surprised most of an attentive audience and was one which I would not have expected a Minister at the Foreign Office to be so thoroughly conversant with.
I hope you are successful in your attempts to promote co-operation between the major producing and trafficking nations as I feel this, along with better social education, is the most effective remedy to what is rapidly becoming the main cause of crime in this country.
Changing the subject to another area of concern, I would like to ask what plans you have for the resettlement of the Vietnamese refugees at present in 'holding' camps in Hong Kong, come the return of the colony to Chinese rule. Will the Chinese Government be solely responsible for the welfare of these people or will we British taxpayers be liable for the well being of genuine political refugees as well as a melange of miscreants and parasites?
I now wish you every success in your political career and look forward to hearing your future orations on the policies of the day.
Yours Sincerely,
IAN T. R. CRAIGIE
