CSD's Comments

Refugees are addressed by their registered numbers or in addition by name because Vietnamese names have camon tones, and some have identical names. The use of registered numbers is to avoid confusion amongst refugees. The refugees preferred the management to address them by number for the

same reason.

Accommodation

11. "Lower bunks are unventilated.

Hut resident say fans work only infrequently. There is no heating in the huts".

There are oscillating ceiling fans and fibre-glass louvres in each dormitory. No heaters are provided as appropriate in the HK situation.

Hygiene

"In Chimawan closed camp,

there is one male and one female toilet for every 150 people.

Showers are

inadequate

allowed

10 minutes of hot water every morning only".

There are 47 cubicles for 1,911 refugees in TMCC, 4 cubicles for each of the ten dormitory block in HLCCC. 87 cubicles are available for 1,939 refugees in Chimawan Closed Centre.

There are 2 gas boilers (capacity 500 litres) with 44 shower heads in TMCC, 26 shower heads in each in HLCCC, 56 shower heads for Chimawan Closed Centre. Hot water is

supplied throughout the day, but due to the design of the boilers, hot water cannot be supplied continuously, and therefore refugees are required to take hot showers in batches. Boilers are installed to provide hot water to refugees for drinking all the time.
