Tuen Mun Area 46A

Hong Kong Government intends to develop an
46A as open refugee camp at Tuen Mun Area quickly as possible and to do so with the
intention of transferring the present
closed centre refugee population to the
new camp once the new accommodation
becomes available. The accommodation at
Area 46A will be based on a temporary
housing area design. new camp will be the
discussions
between
The planning or the subject of continue
the Hong Kong
Government and the UNHCR.
UNHCR
has agreed
responsibility for the
centre at Tuen Mun
to
take
full
management of the
Area 46A to be
exercised through its management agent and
to meet all of the operating costs of the
centre. In addition UNHCR agrees
to
launch on international appeal in early
1989 for funds towards the capital cost of
developing the centre.
Education
UNHCR and the Hong Kong Government are looking for a suitable building for use
use as
a school for children from San Yick with
the assistance
of
the Hong Kong
Government. They will also look into
future schooling facilities for the Tuen
Mun Area 46A residents.
