Thank you for your letter of 25 January about the Oxfam report on Hong Kong's refugee centres.
You will by now have seen my reply to your written Parliamentary Question in which I undertook to write with details of our considered comments on the three Oxfam reports on Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong. We are in touch with the Hong Kong Government about these reports and I will be sending you a substantive reply in due
course.
You recommend that I pay a visit to the refugee centres in Hong Kong. I did indeed see two of the centres for myself when I visited Hong Kong last October. I fully share your concern over the situation of the refugees in Hong Kong and I can assure you that we are doing everything possible to alleviate their plight. shall be passing through Hong Kong briefly in late February, and I plan to discuss the refugee situation further with the Governor at that time.
