An Ordinance to amend the Mental Health Ordinance.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent

of the Legislative Council thereof.

1. (1) This Ordinance may be cited as the Mental Health (Amend- Short title and ment) Ordinance 1988.

(2) This Ordinance shall come into operation on a day to be appointed by the Governor by notice in the Gazette and different days may be appointed for different provisions.

Section 2 of the principal Ordinance is amended—

Amendment of section 2.

(a) by renumbering the existing section as subsection (1);

(b) in subsection (1)—

(i) by inserting before the definition of "certified patient" the following

""approved social worker" means a social worker approved for the purposes of this Ordinance by the Director of Social Welfare;";

(ii) by inserting after the definition of "certified patient" the following-

"chairman" means chairman of the tribunal;";

(iii) in the definition of "guardian" by inserting after "Social Welfare" the following-

"and in relation to a person received into guardianship pursuant to an application under section 33, the person in whom the powers specified in section 34(1) are vested";
