Person Injured: Friday, 1 July 1988

A labourer engaged in the construction of a drainage channel on the left-hand side of the LRT reserve eastbound track west of Tai Hing Estate was injured when a skirt panel at

the rear of an LRV became detached at 0934 hours. The LRV wa s being driven slowly pass the worksite, on a right-hand curve, the driver having checked that all persons were clear of the track. When the rear of the vehicle passed the site, as a result of end-throw, the penultimate skirt panel struck a steel concrete former and was scraped by it, a part of the former entering the gap between the skirt panel and the one of the rear. The resulting impact caused the rear panel to be moved backwards, forcing the panel from its mountings (8 bolts and two brackets moulded into the fibreglass). The panel fell from the vehicle and allegedly struck the labourer on the left arm and back.

Overhead Line Equipment: Thursday, 2 June 1988

An overhead line equipment failure occurred immediately north of Siu Hong in

Siu Hong in Tuen Mun

Tuen Mun at 1030 hours as the pantograph of an LRV became enmeshed in the current distribution wires. At the location concerned, two overhead contact wires coverge at a joint. Final adjustment of the wires had not then taken place, and the tension of one was less than optimum. In consequence, the head of the pantograph passed into the convergence point, causing damage to the vehicle and the OLE.

Collision between LRV and Private Car : Monday, 11 July 1988

A private car collided with an LRV at the western intersection of Yuen Long Northern Bypass and Castle Peak Road at 0805 hours, where the traffic lights had failed, but the junction was not controlled by Police.

Collision between LRV and Taxi Wednesday, 13 July 1988

A taxi collided with an LRV at the junction of Tin Ha Road and Castle Peak Road at 0556 hours. The traffic lights displayed the proceed signal for the LRV. Apparently the taxi was passing the red signal.
