LEGAL REPORT

TRAMWAY (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE 1988

(No. 9 of 1988)

Enclosure No. 2

The object of this Ordinance is to amend the Tramway Ordinance to disapply the provisions relating to maximum fares so far as they affect tour services and private hire services operated by Hong Kong Tramways Limited in addition to its regular service. The result is that fares may be fixed in respect of those services without the consent of the Governor in Council.

2.

In order to ensure control over the number of cars allocated for the operation of additional services, the Ordinance provides that the maximum number of cars used in those services is subject to the approval in writing of the Commissioner for Transport.

Before the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, the Attorney General advised that he could properly do so.

3.

February 1988.

ATTORNEY GENERAL'S CHAMBERS,
