Will you ask other Governments to stop emigration from Hong
Kong?
My Rt Hon and learned friend the Foreign Secretary has already
made clear that there is no question of trying to stop people
leaving Hong Kong. If people want to leave they are free to do so.
It is however clearly in the interests of the international
community that Hong Kong should continue to prosper. It is in nobody's interest to pursue policies which might undermine confidence. I believe that the authorities in major emigration
destinations understand this position well.
