BONG KONG PRESS CONFERENCE 31 MAY 1988

QUESTION:

Bir Geoffrey, you said that Great Britain......high officials

will go around and lobby the ABBAN countries to draft up an

agreement of their own other than the

"

conference...Hong Kong is

one of the members....do you think in the case of different...with

Britain, Hong Kong will still join in such an agreement?

FOREIGN SECRETARY:

I think that is rather a long-range question built on a

number of hypotheses.

I do not know, I am afraid, of the

particular canvassing exercise you have confirmed but obviously, aS

far as the position bere in Hong Kong is concerned, that is a matter

on which the Hong Kong Government and Her Majesty's Government have

been consulting and will continue to consult closely.

ANTHONY

(COMMERCIAL RADIO):

Bir Geoffrey, how will you be presenting the refugee issue

when you discuss this with your colleagues and what will happen to

the refugees if a solution is not found?
