Mrs Chalker has asked me to thank all those who prepared supplementary briefing for the Foreign Affairs Debate on 30 June, which she found uniformally excellent. She is also grateful to those who stood by on the night ready to provide an instant line.

2. Given the shortage of time, there were a number of points raised in the Debate, to which Mrs Chalker was unable to reply in her wind-up. She will want to pursue some of the more important by letter to the respective MPs. I shall be minuting separately on this in due course.
