Debate on Hong Kong

Mr Kaufman told the Secretary of State this afternoon that it was his firm view that there should be a half-day debate on Hong Kong again before the summer recess. The Secretary of State said that he was by no means opposed to this. This will need to be discussed at the next ministerial meeting. I doubt whether it would make sense to try to establish a date for it,

or even to establish the principle of it with the Whips until the Secretary of State returns from Hong Kong. But you might like to have a preliminary word with them.
