HOUSE OF LORDS DEBATE ON HONG KONG
i. Lord Gienarthur had a brier conversation with Lord Cledwyn today about the idea of a House of Lords debate on Hong Kong. Lord Cledwyn had apparently discussed this prospect with the Governor.

Lord Cledwyn thought that a debate in the early summer - probably June
was a good idea. He had suggested to the Governor that responsible Peeers from both sides of the House should be encouraged to visit Hong Kong before then. From the Labour side, he had in mind Lady Ewart-Biggs and Lord Ponsonby.
Lord Glenarthur agrees with the above. He will discuss with the Chiet Whip the names of Conservative Peers who might usefully be involved.
