(d) A new 1,600 bed hospital will be opened later this

year in Tuen Mun.

(e)

A major new public hospital now under construction in

the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island at a cost of

$1.5 billion to provide 1,600 beds.

(£) Major reclamation at Hung Hom Bay and Aldrich Bay.

(g)

A new $1 billion road tunnel to link Tsuen Wan and

Shatin now under construction.

Major Projects Undertaken by the Private Sector

(a) Eastern Harbour Crossing being undertaken by a

consortium comprising Japanese, Chinese, British and

local interests at a cost of more than $3 billion

which will be recouped over a franchise period

running until 2016.

(b) Tate's Cairn Tunnel at an estimated cost of $1.5

billion which will be recouped over a franchise

period stretching past 2020. Six consortia,

combining local and overseas interests, are competing

for the right to build the tunnel.
