Parliamentary Debate - January 1988

While Mrs Virginia Bottomley was here, we gave her a copy of the Governor's Annual Address to LegCo, and copies of all his speeches in the US, so that these could be placed the folder on Hong Kong in the House of

i Commons library. Our obvious aim was that MPs or

esearchers who referred to the folder in preparation for :xt week's debate would have a ready source of reference.

We also gave Mrs Bottomley a copy of our "Bull Points" checklist. This is a series of upbeat statements about Hong Kong which are short and sharp. The Bull Points are drawn on by the Governor, the Chief Secretary and occasionally SASI and DIS during overseas trips or during media interviews here. The format used is not entirely appropriate for inclusion in the Commons library. However, we have now tried our hand at a remodelled version which should be suitable under the heading "Facts about Hong Kong", A copy is in my immediate
