SECRETARY OF STATE'S VISIT TO HONG KONG, 29-31 MAY 1988
Background
1. The Secretary of State, accompanied by Lady Howe, will visit Hong Kong from 29-31 May. His party will include
Mr Tony Galsworthy (his Principal Private Secretary),
Mr Robin McLaren (Assistant Under Secretary of State),
Mr Christopher Hum (Head of Hong Kong Department) and Mr Chris Meyer (Head of News Department).

Sir Geoffrey Howe has not visited Hong Kong, apart from a brief stopover in April 1986, since 1984, and wishes to take the
opportunity of the Whitsun Recess to do so. During his visit the Foreign Secretary will meet members of the Executive and Legislative Council as well as senior Government officials; he will be briefed on development plans for the port, airport and public transport and will make a helecopter tour of places of interest.
Sir Geoffrey Howe will meet community leaders, prominent business men and young professionals and will give a press conference during his last afternoon in Hong Kong.
