I understand that Mr Eggar asked to see records of discussions

during the Secretary of State's visit to Hong Kong.

The main occasions for discussion were the Secretary of State's

meeting with the Executive Council and with the non-official members of the Executive and Legislative Councils. Hong Kong telno 2089 recorded

discussion at the first of these. We still await a telegraphic report

on the second; it covered much of the same ground, but there were also questions on the Basic Law and on the proposal to hold a world exhibition

in Hong Kong in 1997.

I also attach for good measure a transcript of the Secretary of State's

press conference in Hong Kong.
