Objectives

ΤΟ

demonstrate sympathy with any concerns expressed in

Hong Kong about safety at Daya Bay.

Points to make

[General use if raised]

Well aware of concerns in Hong Kong about safety at Daya Bay. These concerns have been relayed to Chinese authorities on several occasions.

Hong Kong Government making every effort to develop appropriate contingency plan.

Copies of UKAEA contingency planning report have been passed to Chinese authorities and Joint Venture Company. Hong Kong Government will take up with them matters which need joint action. Sure this is right course.

Confident Joint Venture Company are committed to ensuring construction, operation and management of the plant will be carried out to highest possible safety standards.

Encouraged by remarks of Emmerson, IAEA, on recent visit - Hong Kong's contingency planning consistent with IAEA guidance.

[If pressed] We in UK live a similar distance from nuclear power stations of same type in northern France.
