officers to doubt his claim to be a visitor; the other initially claimed that he had no contacts in the UK but was found to have a list of UK telephone numbers in his possession.
In accordance with the established procedure of returning those refused entry to their place of departure, the police attempted to put the two men on a flight back to Paris. They resisted this action and police used reasonable force to restrain them. The captain then refused to take them on that flight. they had onward tickets to Hong Kong the next day, they were detained until then and then put on a flight back to Hong Kong.

5. Hong Kong have also reported that two further cases have come to OMELCO's attention and are likely to result in appeals being lodged against a decision to refuse entry. One involves 5 members of a package tour refused entry at Dover on 16 May; and the other a complaint by 20 tourists admitted to the UK on 14 May.
The entry stamp in their passports was marked with a cross and no departure stamp was put in their passports. They are concerned that, in the future, they may experience difficulty entering the UK or other countries. This point will also be taken up with the Home Office. No further details are available at this stage.

There is no question of discrimination between holders of BN (0) and BDTCS. Last year, of 61,300 Hong Kong passport holders travelling to Britain, 310 were denied entry. At Dover East the figure was 67 out of 2246.

Some months agao a minor furore was caused in the Hong Kong press by a British newspaper report that Miss Lydia Dunn, having joined the wrong immigration queue on entry to Britain, was re-directed to the back of the "Others" queue. She was reported (wrongly) to have complained to British Ministers: she had however raised the general issue on an earlier occasion.
