Glad to see separation exercise is running smoothly: note third
Hong Kong ASA, with Canada, has just been signed.
We must ensure that as little delay as possible results from the practice of consulting the Chinese authorities.
AIR SERVICES REVIEW
Understand further round in review of bilateral air services is
currently taking place. We are working for outcome which meets
concerns of both sides: agreed objective is achievement of more
balanced civil aviation relationship.

Have noted your views. Not right for me to comment on or
intervene in review at this stage. Understand further rounds of
talks are likely. Believe two parties to the negotiations should
seek to resolve the issues between themselves.
[Note: this may need to be supplemented in the light of progress at
the talks, which will be held in Hong Kong between 27 June and 1
July]
FREIGHTER SLOTS AT GATWICK [if raised]
Aware of correspondence between Cathay Pacific Airways (CPA) and Department of Transport. Believe it best for any continuing grievances to be pursued with Gatwick Airport and Department of
Transport.

Understand CPA were granted two out of three requested
additional slots, although not quite at the times required. Given
