HONG KONG TELNO 373: LORD GLENARTHUR'S VISIT TO CHINA AND HONG KONG

In his personal telno 373 the Governor expresses concern about the possible length of Lord Glenarthur's visit to Hong Kong in June.

2. You might wish to reassure the Governor that the only fixed point is that the House of Lords authorities have confirmed that they will not schedule any of the various stages of the Abolition of Domestic Rates Bill, which Lord Glenarthur is to take through the House of Lords, between 17-26 June. Within these dates · and indeed we may need to try to extend them slightly beyond 26 June the detailed timing of the various elements of the programme remains to be established (and indeed we have yet to get approval from the Secretary of State, which I will be seeking after the Ministerial Visits Committee meeting next week). But I know that Lord Glenarthur wants to do justice to Hong Kong and will try to follow the Governor's recommendations.
