LORD GLENARTHUR'S VISIT TO HONG KONG: 7-11 JANUARY 1989

1. As discussed there are one or two points for Lord Glenarthur's programme in Hong Kong on which it would be helpful to have your

views so that arrangments can begin to be made:

(a) Lord Glenarthur's visit to the British Trade Commission:

It would be helpful to know what format Lord Glenarthur envisages

for this occasion. One possibility which might commend itself to

the Minister would be to have drinks for all the UK based staff, not

only in the Trade Commission, but also others including language

students and the members of the Diplomatic Service seconded to the

Hong Kong Government.

(b) Visit to UKREP JLG:

This does not as yet appear in the draft programme. But I think it

would be appropriate if the Minister could find about half an hour

in which to pay another visit to the JLG Office.

will ask the Hong Kong Government and the British Trade Commission

to make the necessary

arrangements.
