The regulations provide that the proprietor of a specified industrial undertaking will be responsible labelling in a prescribed manner of dangerous substances which are used,

handled or stored in his workplace. The proprietor is also required to provide his employees with information on the hazards and the precautions necessary in handling these

safety instructions and- to take other appropriate precautions. An employee must use the protective clothing or equipment provided by the employer in a proper manner and he must refrain from eating, drinking or smoking in a workroom in which dangerous substances are used.

The regulations will apply where a dangerous substance is present in a specified industrial undertaking in connection with an industrial process or operation.

The First Schedule lists 231 dangerous substances commonly used in industry in Hong Kong. They are classified according to seven types of basic risk. The list can be expanded
